Supporting Families since 1978

Our Story

Prison Transport Group began in 1978, when a small group of compassionate people recognised the challenges faced by families of prisoners trying to maintain contact with loved ones in correctional centres

Without access to their own transport, many families simply had no way to visit.

This group of volunteers began helping in the simplest way possible – driving families in their own cars so they could maintain those vital family connections. They raised funds to cover fuel costs and stayed connected with families through letters and ongoing support.

These acts of kindness made a meaningful difference to families experiencing difficult circumstances.

In 1985, the organisation was formally incorporated, and in 2018 Prison Transport Group celebrated 40 years of continuous service supporting the families of prisoners.

Today, PTG continues to provide free transport services to correctional centres across Queensland, facilitating connection and contact for families who would otherwise struggle to stay connected.
